Balog György: A’ Cornelius Neposnak Avagy Aemilius Probusnak Hires Nevezetes Hadi Fejedelmeknek Eletekrül, és Cselekedetekrül irt Könyve. Most pedig Magyar nyelvre-fordittatott ~ által, Sopronban 1700. Esztendőben.
Kassán, 1763. Akademiai Betűkkel. (8)+290p.
The first Hungarian translation of the ancient author's popular and widely read work throughout Europe was first published in 1701. Famous men's biographies, which provide moral and state theoretical lessons, were gladly used in schools already in the moral and Latin language education of younger students. Balog was a teacher in Sopron from 1682, and he prepared his work for his students. Therefore, he translated the original text word for word, following the Latin structures exactly, so he often translated it into non-Hungarian. His work dates back to the 19th century. It remained popular until the beginning of the 20th century, and several editions were published. Dávid Czvittinger and Péter Bod considered it a leading piece of Hungarian translation literature and a beneficial read.
19th-century half leather.
Prov.: From the library of József Horváth.
