Mostly the French revision of the cosmography of Sebastian Münster from Basel, but the editors used the descriptions of Antoine du Pinet’s work “Plantz, Pourtraitz et Descriptions de plusieurs villes et forteresses tant de l’Europe” and also conducted relevant research for the edition. The structure of the parts was unified, so the description of each area covers the etymology of place names, topography, folk customs, and public administration. Our item is the second volume of the first part of the work (the second part consists of only one volume), which represents Italy, Germany, the Baltics, the Czech Republic, Scandinavia, Hungary, Poland and Russia. It also contains one of the most spectacular sheets depicting mythical sea monsters. The engravings of the cosmography were also updated, and the Italian pages were decorated with beautiful frames. The publishers, Nicolas Chesneau and Michel Sonnius sent a circular letter to the leaders of the cities and provinces, who sent them the latest maps of the areas under their control. There is no map of Hungary, but a small intertextual representation of Buda was included in the volume.
