Csány's task as a royal commissioner was to protect the line of the Dráva and to keep an eye on the approaching army of Jelačić. Although he could not prevent the outnumbered Croats from crossing the Drava, his merit in orderly retreating and slowing down the enemy's advance is indisputable.
