Jansson, JanPartis Hungariae inter Tibiscum et Nigrum Chrysum. Nova et Accurata Descriptio
Oxford, 1683.
A coloured, copper-engraved map of Transtibiscum, which is a revised version of Jan Jansson’s map made in 1658. The sheet was published in the third part of “The English Atlas”, the first and only edition of the English-language atlas series started by Moses Pitt, but discontinued after the publication of the fourth volume following the model of Jansson’s “Atlas Maior”. One of the two finely crafted and beautifully coloured cartouches encircles the title, depicting the Turkish conqueror and a Hungarian warrior holding a sword and a cross as the last bastion of Christianity, the other frames the linear scale (decorated with putts).
Dimensions: 380 x 475 (475 x 610) mm. Contemporary coloured, fine, clear copy.
Szántai: Pitt 2a.
