The first and most significant work of the Hungarian letterbook which is considered a milestone in Hungarian literature. This genre was fashionable all over Europe in the 18th century. Mikes’ manuscript disappeared for a long time and was finally published along with the preface of the editor, István Kultsár, with the title above (the author originally wrote his fictitious letters under the title: "Constantinapolyban Groff P... E... irot leveli M... K...").
