Perhaps the most important milestone in the history of Hungarian pedagogy is the educational decree issued by Maria Theresa on 22 August 1777, in which she attempted to regulate the entire Hungarian educational system. The queen entrusted the task to József Ürményi, who prepared the draft with Dániel Tersztyánszky, Pál Makó and Ádám Kollár. The provision, conceived in the spirit of the Enlightenment, established a state-controlled public education administration and a unified school system. It also places church schools under state control, introduces subjects of public utility into the curriculum and introduces more practical teaching methods. The second edition was published in 1806.
Contemporary leather. Spine richly gilt.
