Edma: Nevető Pantheon

Márta Edinger-Balázs, aka EDMA, started drawing at the Atelier School of Art in Budapest and continued her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts. His caricatures of the significant figures of Hungarian theatre and artist life were regularly published in contemporary periodicals. A selection of these was the “Nevető Pantheon”, published in 1955.
According to the concept of the book, the drawings are on one page, and quotes from the depicted person are on the other. Our lot is the draft form of the edition, with several autograph inscriptions of those actors, actresses, poets, writers, musicians, etc., whose caricatures were collected in this edition. The most exciting feature of the draft is that the participants sent some autograph lines with their opinions on their caricatures. Thanks to this, we find several manuscripts attached from actors such as Oszkár Ascher, Tamás Major and Hilda Gobbi, painters such as Aurél Bernáth and László Bencze, poets such as Lőrinc Szabó and Ferenc Juhász, writers such as Áron Tamási, Jenő Józsi Tersánszky and Tibor Déry, sculptors and ceramists such as Zsigmond Strobl and Margit Kovács Kisfaludi, and composers such as Zoltán Kodály. These lines are primarily witty reflections on their own caricature.
176 pages with pencil notes and stuck note-sheets. Unbound.
Draft form of EDMA’s (Márta Edinger-Balázs, caricaturist) release of “Nevető Pantheon” with several autograph inscriptions from actors, actresses, poets, writers, and musicians.
