Collection of six coloured lithographs about Hungarian hussars.
The beautifully detailed, hand-coloured lithographs are part of a series of 12 sheets that were published sometime between 1836 and 1848 in the press of Matthias Trentsensky, one of the most famous Viennese publishers of the time. The "Des Kriegers Laufbahn" collection captures the essential moments of a hussar's life with artistic perfection. The pages of the publication with the subtitle "ein Geschenk für die edle vaterländische militairische Jugend für ihre Freunde und Erzieher" were given the following titles:
VI. Die erste Wunde
VII. Der erste Sieg
IX. Die goldene Medaille
X. Der feindliche Gefangene
XI. Die Heldenthat
XII. Die Heimkehr
(The missing parts: I. Der Beruf, II. Die Werbung, III. Der Schwur zur Fahne, IV. Der Abschied vom Vaterhaus, V. Die Abrichtung, VIII. Die erste Waffentat.)
Since the lithographs included here were cropped, the above titles were given based on the complete series in the Museum of Military History. In addition, as far as we know, the Jász Museum also has 9 coloured sheets(those are heavily worn and trimmed). We have no information about previous appearance at auction.
Dimensions: 210 x 315 mm. Framed.
